Fire and Iron Productions' COVIDS Film Competition for Writers

This is a strange time for everyone. People out of work, having to stay 6ft apart from everyone, Zoom being the new meeting point for everyone (seriously, if I could travel back in time the first thing I would do is buy shares in Zoom). Here at Fire and Iron Productions, we had an idea.

Creatives from all areas of the industry are sitting at home brewing with ideas and waiting to make their stories heard. So, as a production company, we thought we'd give a helping hand and have a bit of fun in the process. We challenged people on our social media accounts (which you should go check out) to write a short script from 1-3 pages with a maximum of 3 characters and one location. The best submissions would have their scripts filmed and edited for free (after the pandemic passes of course)! All we asked for is a good story with well-rounded characters. That's all you need really.

We were really pleased with the number and also the standard of the submissions we received. We cannot wait until all this is over and we can finally get back to doing what we love, making films. Film making and narrative storytelling is our absolute passion and we are shaking with anticipation to make these stories a reality.

We've had to adapt as a business for a short while. Lots of video conferencing, putting plans in place once we can finally sit in the same room and film something, but to be honest it's given us a chance to catch up on some paperwork. We will work through this period, like everyone, and come out the other end stronger.

I hope you're all well and keeping safe. We will let you know when the competition winners' films are released. We will have many more opportunities in the future, which we will post on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, so do give them a follow to keep up to date with all things film.

Bye for now.
